In 1992, Sara married actor Aden Gillett, with whom she has two children. They are now separated. In 2011, Sara had surgery for breast cancer, and now supports charities and causes for fighting the disease. Following the surgery, Sara began to suffer from depression and her relationship with actor Mark Powley ended. Here you can read a very frank interview with Sara that she gave to the Express in 2014, as well as another she gave to the Daily Record a few weeks later about her troubled childhood and how her friendship with Garbage lead singer Shirley Manson helped her through.
