David, who appeared in the music video for Charlotte Hatherley's Bastardo in 2005, swam 21 miles in 2006 across the English Channel in 10 hours 30 minutes to raise money for Sport Relief, and followed this in 2008 by swimming across the Strait of Gibraltar (12 miles) in four and a half hours. In 2010, he cycled the UK end to end to help raise £1m for Sport Relief, while in 2011 he swam the length of the River Thames (140 miles), contracting giardiasis and injuring an intervertebral disc, requiring emergency back surgery. David's children's books have sold more than four million copies since the first one was published in 2008. He has also written an autobiography, called Camp David (2012).
