David's wife is retired actor Sheila Ferris, while his younger brother is broadcaster John Suchet. David's father Jack was an obstetrician and gynaecologist who carried out research into the use of penicillin in the treatment of venereal disease, alongside Sir Alexander Fleming. David's father-in-law was James Jarche, a Fleet Street photographer who took the first photos of Edward VIII and the then-unknown Wallis Simpson, as well as illicit colour photos of Elizabeth II's coronation.
